２日間、高野山探訪記休止していましたが「奥の院」の続篇です。
北海道人としては土地としてはあんまり馴染みのない和歌山・紀州。
そのなかでも山上の別世界的な高野山ということで周辺知識はまったくなかった。
金剛峯寺という真言宗の総本山の名前だけは知っていたけれど、
そこを探訪してみるとさらに奥に「奥の院」があって、
しかもいまでも弘法大師空海は生けるがごとくはるかなお弟子さんたちから
毎日の食事を捧げられながら、鎮座されているというのですね。
ということで、かわいい僧侶像に誘われて奥の院探訪を決意。

この奥の院に至る道筋は「絵地図」によれば約３ｋｍ。
往復するには6kmの移動距離なので結構な運動量にもなる、修行か。
その途中にはたくさんの墓標が建てられていて、
歴史上の有名人たちが空海の尊名を慕って蝟集しているという。
いかにも関西文化圏の空気感、時間経過の積層が強く感じさせられる。
日本国家に正式に編入されてからまだ150年ほどの時間しか持たない
北海道の現実感覚とは違う時間が流れている雰囲気。
空海の死去（835年）からも、1200年近い時間が経過しているのに
まだこのような敬愛が存在し続けていることに
日本の仏教と精神史の存在感をまざまざと知らされる。
途中には司馬遼太郎の碑文も置かれている。


今回の写真整理の機会に全文が読めるように画像を修正してみた。
一部はそれでも読みにくいのですが以下に。
〜高野山は、いうまでもなく平安初期に空海がひらいた。
高野山はふしぎなほどに平坦である。空中に一個の都市でも展開しているように
堂塔・伽藍・子院などが棟をそびえさせ、ひさしを深くし、練塀をつらねている。
横道に入ると、中世「別所」とよばれて、非僧、非俗のひとたちが集団で住んでいた
幽迷（？）な場所があり、寺よりもはるかに俗臭がすくない。
さらには林間に苔むした中世以来の墓地があり、
もっとも奥まった場所である奥の院には、僧空海がいまも生けるひととして
四時、勤仕されている。その大道の出発点には、唐代の都城の門もこうであったかと
思えるような大門がそびえているのである。
大門の向こうは、天空である。山なみがひくくたたなずき、四季四時の虚空が
ひくく大きい。大門からそのような虚空を眺めていると、この宗教都市が
じつは現実のものではなく、空に架けた幻影ではないかとさえ思えてくる。
まことに高野山は日本国のさまざまな都鄙のなかで
唯一ともいえる異域ではないか。　　司馬遼太郎〜

国民作家といわれた氏の文章に勝る表現はない。
歴史から教えられる衆生として高野山を巡っていたいと思います。

[Kukai’s Sleeping “Okunoin” Ryotaro Shiba Inscription Koyasan Expedition-13]
It is a sequel to “Oku-no-in”, although I was suspended from visiting Koyasan for two days.
Wakayama and Kishu are not very familiar to Hokkaido people as a land.
Among them, I had no knowledge of the surrounding area because it was Mt. Koya, which is another world on the mountain.
For the time being, I knew only Kongobuji, the main temple of the Shingon sect,
When I explored there, there was “Okunoin” in the back,
Moreover, even now, Kobo Daishi Kukai is still alive, from far-reaching disciples.
You are sitting down while offering your daily meals.
So, I was invited by a cute monk statue and decided to visit Okunoin.

The route to this Okunoin is about 3km according to the “picture map”.
It’s a 6km travel distance to make a round trip, so it’s a good amount of exercise, isn’t it?
Many grave markers were built along the way,
It is said that historical celebrities are gathering together in love with Kukai’s famous name.
The atmosphere of the Kansai cultural area and the accumulation of time have been strongly felt.
Only about 150 years have passed since it was officially incorporated into the Japanese state.
Atmosphere that time is flowing different from the reality of Hokkaido.
Almost 1200 years have passed since Kukai’s death (835).
That this kind of respect still exists

It goes without saying that Kukai opened on Mt. Koya in the early Heian period.
Koyasan is mysteriously flat. As if it were deployed in one city in the air

When entering the side street, it was called “Bessho” in the Middle Ages, and non-monks and non-professionals lived in groups.
There is a ghostly (?) Place, and it smells much less profane than a temple.
In addition, there is a mossy graveyard in the woods since the Middle Ages.
In Okunoin, the deepest place, the monk Kukai is still alive.
I am working at four o’clock. At the starting point of the road, I wondered if the gate of Miyakonojo in the Tang dynasty was also like this
There is a towering gate that seems to be.
Beyond the Daimon is the sky. Nodding in the mountains, the emptiness of the four seasons at four o’clock
It’s big. Looking at such a void from Daimon, this religious city
In fact, it seems that it is not a reality, but an illusion in the sky.
Indeed, Koyasan is one of the various cities in Japan.

There is no better expression than the text of a national writer.
I would like to visit Mt. Koya as a sentient being taught from history.
