【「体技の継承」とは? 鵤工舎・小川三夫氏講演・対談会】




昨日今日2日間は北海道が会場になっての国の住宅月間の中央イベント開催。
その一環としての岩見沢市での大工技能関連の催事に取材参加。
さきに「削ろう会」を見学して来ましたが、こちら詳細は明日以降に。
夕方からは鵤工舎・小川三夫氏講演・対談会に参加していました。
氏は、法隆寺宮大工・西岡常一さんの弟子。
西岡氏は法隆寺の昭和の改修工事に取り組んでいたが、
工法を巡って国の諮問機関「建築工学博士」たちから構造補強のために
金物補強すべきであるという方針指示を受けた際に
「打ち首にされても、そんなことはできない」とその方針を拒否したとされる。
いわば魂の部分でのその「正嫡」と言える存在が小川氏。
お話しからはまさに西岡さんの魂魄を身を以て受け継いでいる気迫が伝わる。
「宮大工は社寺仏閣専門であり、家を建てる家大工とは流れが違う」
「しかし、手業・魂魄としては同じ」というのが氏の考え。
北海道で家大工として技術の存続継承に強い思いを持つみなさんが参集された。

木と向き合って体で関わっていく大工仕事は内語しながらの営為。
体技としての大工技能については当方には素養は無く
その精神性の部分を共有するよう内語で翻訳しながら対話していた。
自分たちのそれぞれの仕事領域で経験する内語と比較しながら、
働くということの本質について対語することになるのが自然でしょう。
体技習得とは労働基準法みたいな社会制度とはモノサシが違う。
心得という本質部分ではそうであることは伝わってくる。
そしてそれは「日本のものづくり」の本質部分の解析でもあると思われた。
いま日本の円安が進行しているけれど、ある意味では
世界の資本主義からのサインとして世界の製造業の中心に
日本が復活すべきであると後押しされているようにも思える。
事実、いろいろな企業分野で日本に製造拠点を復元させる動きがある。
半導体の製造拠点が九州に作られたり、アイリスオーヤマが中国から撤退して
日本国内で製造ラインを再構築するという発表。
自動車企業でも中国の生産ラインをまったく区分けしてその他の世界で
生産ラインを独自に生成する取り組みが活発に展開してきている。
報道される事象をはるかに超えてこうした動きは加速しているのだろう。
戦後日本の復興はものづくり製造業が世界の需要の追い風を受けたものだった。
そういう現在認識のなかで小川氏の講演・対談は視点価値があると思われた。
課題はたくさんある。
会場からの声では「ひとづくり」教育現場での現状に絶望した悲嘆的発言も。
しかし、わたし的には日本の大工体技伝統に象徴される魂魄のコアな部分が
社会全体に根付いていることを信じたいと思います。
魂魄の部分でのものづくりパワーは
日本人の意識の底流に根強くあり続けていると信じて取り組んでいくしかない。

労働基準法のような枠組みは受容した上で、魂魄は根太く継承していく。
そう考えていくことで世界の中で「ものづくり大国・日本」は生き残れる。
そんな内語・期待感を反芻しながら帰路に着いていた。

【石蒸し➡縄文土器へ「食の革命」 日本列島37,000年史-10】





さて日本列島での旧石器時代の社会実相を国立歴史民俗博物館展示で考えてきた。
わたし的にはコペルニクス的学習機会であり刺激的でした。
石器を基本ツールとしながら現代のわれわれの文化に繋がってきた
マザーでありその「進化過程」を掘り下げるという視点。
現代の考古の知見は炭素年代法というモノサシを活用して
このような社会実相に迫ってきていることが学習できてワクワクさせられた。
展示パネルの興味深い部分に沿って考えをまとめながら連載してみた。

で、この22,000年以上と言われる旧石器段階から縄文への移行について。
必ずしも展示にそのような結論があったわけではないけれど、
わたし的に非常に印象深かったのが「食の革命的変化」。
縄文を特徴付けるもっとも核心は土器料理の普遍的採用だということ。
一方で旧石器のひとびとの食のスタイル展示の中に
「石蒸し料理」の紹介があって実にシンボリックだと感じたのです。
肉や魚などはそのまま火に炙って食べるのが一般的だろうけれど、
栄養バランスから考えて必須の写真のような植物性食品調理には適さない。
焼くだけでは炭化が進むだけでうま味を味わうことができない。

平成3年に見つかった浅間山麓の長野県・下弥堂遺跡での発掘写真。
見つかったのは川原石をぎっしりと敷き詰めた穴。「石蒸し料理」キッチン。
調理手順は以下のようだとされている。
1 握りこぶし大の石を穴に入れる。
2 石がカンカンに熱くなるまでその上で火を焚く。
3 ホウの葉などの木の葉で包んだ食材を石の上に並べる。
4 その上に土をかぶせて1時間ほど蒸し焼きにする。
5 食材を土の中から取りだし葉を開いて食べる。
こういう調理法は現代のパプアニューギニアなどの民俗例でも見られるという。
実際にわたしも石蒸し料理は食べたことがあるけれど、食材に良く火が通って
非常に香ばしくジューシーな食感を楽しめる。
ポイントは食材をしっかり葉で包むこと。こういう料理法は
現代にも蒸し焼き料理として連綿とあり続けている。マザーな食文化。
人類の進化の中で、食文化というのはかなり決定的なファクター。
そして料理法というのは食材の栄養とうま味を極限まで追究するもの。
肉も魚も最重要な食材で焼くだけでもおいしいけれど、
他の植物性食材にうま味を染み込ませて同時に食する「進化」が
当然に追究されていったに違いないと思うのです。
そうすると上から2番目の「縄文土器」での「鍋料理」は革命的に合理的。
石蒸しはおいしいのは格別だけれど調理に手間がかかる。
対して土器だと簡易でいわゆる鍋料理のルーツとして日本食文化で基底的。

多様な食材を渾然一体として受け入れる柔軟性も高い。
日本人の精神的原型・ルーツとしても縄文土器での食生活は
大きな影響力を持ったのではないか。
獲得が陸生動物と比較して容易で「平和的入手」可能な魚をベースにして、
そのうま味を余すところなく引き出すのは、精神性も含めて日本人らしい。
どうも時代の変化は、この食の革命が静かな起因だったのではないか。
日本列島での時代変容にはこういう平和的な移行がふさわしかったのだとも
思われてならないのであります。さてどうかなぁ?

日本列島に残る旧石器時代人の痕跡・遺跡からの時代相探索。
時間にして37,000年前から縄文開始の約13,000年前まで
25,000年間くらいの時代相が相当する。
人間の世代更新をおおまかに20才として考えれば、1,250世代。
ジオラマのような親子の知恵の継承が不断に行われ続けた。
石器へのさまざまな工夫をもって人類は生き抜いてきた。
ちょうど子どもが石に向かって鋭利な注意力を向けている様子。
それを見つめる父親の表情になんともいえない感情がこもっている。

「この石、こんなふうに割れるんだ。この断面なら、こう使えるかなぁ」

石に向かって自分たちの生き方を進歩させる工夫を凝らす。
もっとも普遍的に存在する利器としての石を

人類進化のさまざまな「要素」が発現していったのでしょう。
その要素が「止揚」されて現代世界にまで技術痕跡として繋がっている。
これは確実に存在した歴史事実。

最高の原料とされ、その発掘生産のための社会組織的痕跡まで見られる。
「これメッチャいいべや〜、みんな欲しがるに違いない」
「こりゃぁ発掘の専門組織や、製品化の場所も必要だな・・・」
というような分業化の痕跡が見られるのだという。
世界規模での情報共有が相当の速度で伝わったことが推認される。
まさに道具の進化は情報交流の進化ももたらしたのだろう。
先人たちの生き抜く知恵に圧倒される。・・・

海を渡って他地域と交流するということにも径庭は小さかった。
海生動物の捕獲ということも大きな目的要因かも知れない。
一方、狩猟道具の一体性からみて血族的関係性も認識していたかもしれない。
人類史ではごく初期から「一夫一婦制」が社会的に採用されたとされる。
当然、血族関係という認識も深く保持していたことも間違いはない。
ほかの動物種と大きく進化が違ったことの有為な起因として
この血族認識は相当大きかったのではないか。
DNAの発展多様性発現にとって有利だったと思われる。・・・
地図では数十キロ程度しか対馬海峡の距離は存在しない。
このあと気候の温暖化から15,000年前以降「縄文海進」の海面上昇があり、
船での移動によってその後も相互関係はあったとしても
基本的には大陸側と相対的に隔絶し独自進化方向に向かったのだろう。


他方、本州中部地域では旧石器時代の最大の利器・天然のガラス「黒曜石」が
長野県にある最大標高1,531mの和田峠と、伊豆半島沖の神津島で産出され、
広域にわたってそれが流通していることが確認されている。
黒曜石は北海道オホーツク海側の白滝で世界最高水準のものが産出される。
こちらも広域に流通していたことがわかっている。

生業での広域移動という要素はさまざまな社会発展のマザーだった。
かなり意図的に知見を相互交流するということが
活発に行われたのが人類であり、その痕跡が精神に強く影響を与えて
やがて抽象的な世界認識や歴史時間認識という不思議な発展に至るのではないか。
石器時代のDNA進化史とでもいえる領域、非常にワクワクする。

しかし、こういう人類史を見つめ続けてくると
先人たちのこころの実相との大きな乖離を感じてならない。

【34,000年前のムラ? 環状キャンプ 日本列島37,000年史-3】





石器時代の住まいのカタチはどんなものだろうか?
こういう直接的な疑問に対して最新の考古・歴史学は探究が及んできている。
図版は千葉県墨古沢遺跡HPと国立歴史民俗博物館・先史展示パネルより。

移動採集生活、という漠然としたライフスタイルが石器時代の暮らしと
これまでの探究結果で示されてきたけれど、
ここでは34,000年前の「千葉県墨古沢遺跡・環状ブロック群」が展示。
以下、パネルに記載されたテキストを書き出してみる。
〜南北67m、東西60mの範囲で石器1万点が集中的に分布し、日本最大級。
サークル状に分布する石器・石屑の集中痕跡が各地で発見されてきて
「環状ブロック群」と呼ばれている。遊動生活を送る狩猟採集民が1箇所に集まった
大規模なムラ、キャンプの跡だったかもしれない。〜
〜大型動物を狩猟するためには複数の集団が集まった「狩りのムラ」という説や
季節的な遊動スケジュールの中で食料などさまざまな生活必需品を交換するために
集まったムラなど諸説があり実態はナゾである。〜
〜旧石器時代には「竪穴住居」は見つかっておらず、
移動可能なテント状の住居が主流だった。キャンプから数キロ圏内で食料を確保。
季節的に移動する動物や季節毎に変化する果樹などの資源に応じて
キャンプ場自体を移動させながら暮らしていた。〜

これまで定住は縄文以降であって石器時代に集落痕跡というのは
こうして実証的な解析結果が示されて初めてそのありようを知った。
人間というのは「人の間」と書くし、必ず類的に生きてきたのだと思いつつ、
縄文以前のライフスタイルは無明の闇の中にあった。
それがこういう遺跡発掘・研究の結果、あきらかになって来ている。
社会的相互扶助なく個人や家族単位程度で独立的に生存し続ける方が
たしかに「理不尽」だと気付かされる。
より大型の動物狩猟を考えれば協働した方が効率は飛躍的に高まるし
テント生活も寄り集まった方が危険への防衛力も高まる。
食糧確保・生産管理という共同体としてこれは「ムラ」と呼んでいいのではないか。
そしてこの時代の住居とはテントだろうし、その骨材は木材であり
面材としては大型動物の皮革だっただろうことが想定される。
より大型の動物ほど、利用可能な皮革は大きい。
展示では男性は狩猟を担当し、女性はその動物皮革を「なめす」仕事を担当していた。
出産育児という定点的役割主体の女性と、狩猟での戦闘行為を期待される男性
という役割分担は蓋然性が高いと思える。

このあとの縄文では主に居住域は海辺・水辺に寄っていく。
日本列島は海に囲まれている有利性があるので
より安定的な動物タンパク源確保策としてこのことはわかりやすい。
漁撈が主体になると食料獲得がより安定したので定住の社会基盤が整った。
そういう結果、大型動物皮革獲得があまり期待できなくなって
住居進化の面を考えると屋根面材は周辺の茅などの植物性素材に変化していった。
さらに定住になると、居住「性能向上」の工夫が始まって
安定した地熱利用が考えられ地面を掘り下げる竪穴に向かったのではないか。
そんな巨視的な「都市と住まいの流れ」が見晴らせるように思われた。

最近、ブログの記述範囲がやや、あちこち拡散気味。
基本は暮らしと住宅というテーマ。ただ、先日来書いていたように
思索を重ね記録していた画像データの外付けSSDドライブの
アクセス不能で積み重ねてきたテーマ集中データを参照できないので
どうも自分自身の再構築に時間が掛かってしまっています。

そんななかで「日本列島37,000年史」ブログの試みに挑戦。
写真データは過去の取材写真で国立歴史民俗博物館・先史展示から。
旧石器時代というのは今から約3万8千年前から1万6千年前の約2万2千年間。
人々はまだ土器を持たず、主に打ち欠きによって作られた打製石器や
動物の骨や角を用いて作られた骨角器を使い狩猟や採集活動を行っていた。
日本列島ではこの時代から人間活動が展開されてきた。
さまざまな事物の探究の中から、いちばん上の表現イラストのような
「こころ」の世界があきらかにされてきているという。
歴史民俗博物館の研究者たちの「集団意思」として確定しているのでしょう。
・変換ネットワーク
・発明能力
・資源開発の計画性
・抽象的思考
という4つのこころの発展実相について史的妥当性を認めている。
こうしたこころが我々現代人にまで伝わる暮らし方の基盤を形成する。
「変換ネットワーク」ということについては、すでに交易実態があることで
容易に理解できる。北海道の黒曜石が本州地区で発掘されることで
このことはあきらか。そして当然「資源開発の計画性」ということにも
このことは密接に繋がってくる。
入手した黒曜石を利用して生活有用物の採取を計画的に実行する社会があった。
「発明能力」もまた、当然、交易活動の基盤であっただろう。
ある有用材が流通するためには、交換可能な有用材を自らも開発努力する
必要性が当然のようにあったことだろう。
「あそこに行けばこれが得られる」という魅力が交易活動の条件。
逆に言えば、そういう努力がなければ自立生活も難しかっただろう。
最後の「抽象的思考」というのがきわめて興味深い。
暮らしを豊かにして行く、社会の生産性を向上させるには
こうしたこころの進化発展が不可欠ということでしょう。

こうした20,000年を超える時間蓄積からやがて縄文という時代に移行し
現代人まで繋がってくる日本列島での人間社会が実現してきた。
はるかな叡智の連綿とした継続が現代社会に投影されているのでしょう。
で、現代人的行動というものを抽象化させるのに
・時間の管理
・交換体系
・情報ネットワーク
という3つの要素にまとめ上げられていた。
こういった先史と現代のシンクロという視点はいろいろな気付きに繋がる。
このパネル1枚を契機とした歴史民俗博物館研究員さんとの「対話」は有益。
もっと深くコミュニケーションしたくなりますね。
訪問後、ずっと思索を温めていくのに写真記録を残していてよかった。
自分の気付きの痕跡を残すのはいかに大事か、よくわかります。
