\u3000Since I used to work on a home design magazine where photography was the primary form of expression, the act of \u201cworking with photographs\u201d gradually became a part of me over time.
\nWhile I\u2019ve distanced myself from exploring residential spaces, the act of image editing itself has left a deep-rooted sense of \u201csuki\u201d (a love of the art) within me. I\u2019ve naturally come to be drawn to areas where I can set aside the constraints of handling \u201cpersonal information\u201d with caution\u2014a requirement I face when covering homes. As an area where such constraints can be lifted, my own self begins to emerge.
\n\u3000And so, as I began organizing my old photographs, I realized that the \u201cpsychology\u201d of the moment I took them contains a certain \u201cmemory.\u201d
\n\u3000This may not be limited to portraits. However, I\u2019m beginning to think that the \u201cflow of energy\u201d I felt in that moment\u2014whether I was the one taking the photo or was aware that I was being photographed\u2014is firmly preserved in my memory. That said, since there is a commonly cited \u201cthreshold of self-awareness\u201d in human consciousness, I wonder if a significant \u201cdiscrepancy\u201d occurs before and after that point.
\n\u3000The photo, embarrassingly enough (laughs), shows me as I was 72 years ago.
\nIt\u2019s a group photo taken at my grandmother\u2019s funeral when I was exactly two years old. I tried to restore and enhance it using modern photo-editing software like Photoshop, but the resolution is practically at its limit. I think it has a certain charm with its ink-painting-like atmosphere.
\n\u3000I look at this photo often, and every time I do, the emotions I felt in that split second when the picture was taken come flooding back. As a two-year-old, I had an unusually strong fascination with the \u201cearlobe\u201d of my third older brother, who was standing in the front row among the gathered family, and I was desperately reaching out to touch it.
\nIt\u2019s a mystery, isn\u2019t it? (laughs).
\n\u3000Setting aside that kind of behavioral analysis, I personally think this photo is the very origin of a different kind of sensation\u2014one where the psychological memory of that moment is, so to speak, \u201cpinned up.\u201d
\n\u3000I don\u2019t understand why humans are capable of having such psychological associations with photographic images. Here\u2019s the AI\u2019s explanation:
