\nFifteen years have passed since the Great East Japan Earthquake. It was the ultimate manifestation of \u201cimpermanence\u201d I\u2019ve ever encountered in my life. An opportunity to reconnect with my feelings from that time, transcending time and space…<\/p>\n

\u3000I set out around noon yesterday and arrived in Sendai just before 3:00 p.m. I was there early to attend the \u201cGreat East Japan Earthquake\u201d related events starting today, but I couldn\u2019t help wandering all over the place, thinking, \u201cI want to see this and that\u201d (sigh). The photo shows the \u201cUnderground Forest Museum,\u201d which I visited during the time I was active in the Sendai area and thought, \u201cI\u2019d like to take a closer look at this next time.\u201d
\nIt\u2019s a facility open to the public where traces were discovered of three Stone Age people who came to this location in southern Sendai about 20,000 years ago\u2014during the Stone Age\u2014to hunt and camp. It\u2019s a \u201chistorical relic\u201d museum that makes me worry it might be a bit too niche for the average person.
\n\u3000As traces of human activity, it\u2019s just a campsite, but the fact that these traces were discovered after transcending 20,000 years of time and space is a miracle. I\u2019ve walked all over Japan, and while I\u2019m quite the enthusiast for museums and memorial halls like this, I honestly don\u2019t know of any other Stone Age traces. These are traces of humanity that go beyond the span of what we call \u201chistory,\u201d and it\u2019s incredibly stimulating. I ended up spending the entire day there until closing time. Even so, I didn\u2019t have enough time to see the \u201creconstruction of the forest from 20,000 years ago.\u201d I\u2019ll have to come back for another try\u2026
\nI was getting around by transferring between the airport railway line and the subway, but yesterday morning I took my usual \u201cmorning walk\u201d around my home in Sapporo, walking over 6,000 steps. Since I was trying to use public transportation as much as possible, my step count kept rising.<\/p>\n

\u3000From there, I made my way to central Sendai and Sendai Station, checked into a hotel near the station, and ended up wandering all over the area around the station. By then, I was definitely feeling tired, so I cautiously checked my step count\u2014and there it was. Oh no.
\nIn the end, my only option was to head straight back to the hotel and rest.
\nI guess I really need to start thinking about acting my age.
\nThe main focus of my trip is the inspection starting today, so I\u2019m going to do my best.
\n\u3000In the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake, I spent three years working on a magazine called \u201cTohoku Housing Reconstruction,\u201d published as a prefectural public information journal, to deliver information on \u201chousing reconstruction\u201d to disaster victims through that channel.
\nWhen I received this invitation from an acquaintance, I felt it was an opportunity to bring closure to that \u201cvolunteer\u201d work. Fifteen years later, I want to take in the current situation in the disaster-affected areas with my own eyes.<\/p>\n
