\nAs a native of Hokkaido, I was completely blown away by the explosive flavor of \u201cdago-jiru\u201d the first time I tried it. I\u2019m crushed by a strong sense of defeat once again, but hey, I\u2019m going to bounce back! …<\/p>\n

\u3000Just as I suspected (lol), after taking a little stroll around Fukuoka Prefecture\u2014or rather, the wider area including Kurume\u2014I\u2019ve already been blown away by the local cuisine (lol).
\n\u3000In yesterday\u2019s blog post, I wrote about a delicious meal at a restaurant, but that impression was hit me all over again during yesterday\u2019s lunch at \u201cGenki Yasai Shokujyo Hotomeki-an,\u201d located inside \u201cMichi-no-Eki Kurume.\u201d I\u2019m completely defeated.
\nI thought I came to Kyushu fairly often, but since I\u2019m traveling with my wife, perhaps it\u2019s because the atmosphere feels so homey, or maybe my attention to what I eat just heightens. This time, I tried a local dish called \u201cDago-jiru\u201d for the first time, and I was completely won over by its sheer impact!
\nI\u2019m completely uninformed\u2014this was my first time trying a dish like this. It\u2019s a miso soup made with five or six locally grown vegetables like potatoes, onions, and ginger, topped with a generous serving of small pieces of dough called \u201cdago\u201d\u2014which resemble wheat-based udon noodles\u2014as if to say, \u201cHere, take a look at this!\u201d
\n\u3000The miso broth is infused with the umami of the tender vegetables, and it pairs perfectly with the \u201cdago,\u201d spreading a refreshing flavor throughout my mouth.
\nI used to think of miso soup as a supporting player that enhances the Japanese dining experience alongside rice, but this \u201cdago\u201d soup is a supporting actor that spectacularly boosts your appetite. Or rather, it wouldn\u2019t be an exaggeration to call it the star of the show. The symphony created by these ingredients feels like it\u2019s fully showcasing the region\u2019s vitality.
\n\u3000…Hmm, as a Hokkaido native who feels a sense of loneliness at the lackluster state of Sapporo ramen, I can\u2019t help but feel a slight sense of alienation deep down. Once again, that feeling of \u201closing\u201d is at its peak.
\nI touched on this sense of defeat in yesterday\u2019s blog as well (lol), but it really feels like the vitality of the region is being gradually instilled in me through my meals. This has truly turned into quite the \u201cjourney of learning.\u201d
