Visualizing Earth’s Structure: Life Re-learning at Hokkaido University
\nA belated \u201cre-learning\u201d opportunity (lol). Yet I’m grateful for this chance. Humans are guided by chance and embraced by the vast life of Earth…<\/p>\n

\u3000Well, the Hokkaido University Museum exhibition offered us a chance to relearn life during our couple’s stroll.
\nBy visually presenting various scientific insights in a \u201cconcise, easy-to-understand\u201d way, it effectively \u201coverwrites\u201d our common knowledge with the latest information.
\nThe image above made the relationship between Earth and the \u201cbiosphere\u201d click into place for me. It visually captured the concrete arrangement of the environment where the human world\u2014where we exist as beings \u201ckept alive\u201d\u2014is itself \u201ckept alive\u201d by the Earth.
\nWithin this world, which is but a thin \u201cmembrane\u201d on the Earth’s surface, humans have created the \u201ccivilization sphere,\u201d and within it lies our own \u201clifetime.\u201d And through generational succession, we have been allowed to perpetuate life. This has led me to envision a miraculous sense of profound gratitude. Especially as couples like us pass a certain age, this gratitude becomes overwhelmingly intense. Within this biosphere, humans develop religious concepts of infinite chains concerning human life\u2014this present life, past lives, future lives.<\/p>\n

\u3000Perhaps what we think we \u201cunderstand\u201d is, on Earth’s timescale, simply how the Earth itself makes \u201cliving beings\u201d perceive it.
\nIt seems more accurate to recognize that something like the \u201cbreathing of the Earth\u201d\u2014from its deep magma core to this biosphere\u2014is transmitted to the human world as \u201cvibrations.\u201d
\n\u3000…I felt this image of Earth and life was being visualized.
\nWithin this Earth sphere, the existence of a single human being is sustained as an incredibly minute presence. Yet precisely because of this, we must live carefully. And ideally, we should strive to live honestly, guided by a greater sense of \u201cvitality\u201d \u2013 that sort of realization. Though it’s quite late now (laugh).
\n\u3000But when you’re made aware of such concrete imagery, even the smallest things in daily life can spark wonder and new \u201cdiscoveries.\u201d For me, this was a profoundly \u201ceye-opening\u201d map of the Earth.<\/p>\n
