\nThe differences between us and them that this spatial arrangement allows us to endure. The 7-5 syllable rhythm language culture born from that sensibility. What of our sensibilities within this isolated environment of snow and ice? …<\/p>\n

\u3000The concept of \u201cflower, bird, wind, moon\u201d symbolizes the Japanese sensibility.
\nIndeed, at this \u201cH\u014dj\u014d no Iori,\u201d I was able to experience that quintessential Japanese quality in its purest form.
\n\u3000And then, in Hokkaido, where a harsher \u201cflower, bird, moon, and wind\u201d\u2014a world dominated by snow and ice\u2014was added to this, I wrote that for humans born into an environment where the living conditions must evolve more maternally to fully protect them, the living environment of this Hojo no Iori evoked not affection, but a feeling of cherishing.
\n\u3000Indeed, the Japanese sensibility must have been nurtured over time within such living environments.
\nDidn’t the culture of short, seven-five syllable phrases also emerge from this cradle of sensibility? Indeed, the two-syllable nouns like \u201chana\u201d (flower), \u201ctsuki\u201d (moon), \u201ckaze\u201d (wind), and \u201ctori\u201d (bird) form the foundation of Japanese. By connecting these with one-syllable particles like \u201cwo\u201d (with), \u201cka\u201d (that), \u201cga\u201d (that), \u201cno\u201d (of), and \u201cto\u201d (to), the fundamental \u2018space\u2019 for communication is established. This derived a basic sense of phonetic rhythm, ensuring the \u201cjoy\u201d of exchanging words.
\n\u3000After introducing kanji culture, the Japanese people, as a nation, worked to harmonize it with the existing \u201cmountain language\u201d (native Japanese). This effort likely led to the invention of kana characters and the creation of a unique language. As they assimilated the comprehensive introduction of kanji culture\u2014a \u201ccultural revolution\u201d unparalleled in the world\u2014the seven-five rhythm short-sentence culture was also refined and systematized.<\/p>\n

\u3000The existence of this \u201cH\u014dj\u014d’s Hut\u201d would be well-suited to that Japanese worldview of \u201cflowers, birds, wind, and moon.\u201d In Kyoto’s environment, with an annual average temperature of 15.9\u00b0C, sealing off the openings and warming oneself by the hearth allows one to somehow \u201cweather\u201d the winter, enjoying the gentle beauty of nature alongside the cherry blossoms. While that is certainly delightful, for a Hokkaido native, a psychological reservation arises: \u201cTrue, we are people who moved here from there…\u201d Incidentally, Hokkaido’s annual average temperature ranges from 5\u00b0C to 10\u00b0C.
\n\u3000It seems we cold-climate dwellers must forge an entirely new sensibility for \u201cflower, bird, wind, moon.\u201d
\nThinking about it, does this mean we must achieve a \u201ccultural revolution\u201d comparable to the era of introducing kanji culture, but with a much smaller population? A deep sense of \u201cregret and melancholy\u201d wells up…<\/p>\n
