9\/16 External SSD trouble occurred during business trip.
\nI forgot to put the power cable for my Mac in my luggage, so I asked my wife to send it to the hotel where I was staying as soon as possible.
\nI asked my wife to send the cable to the hotel where I was staying as soon as possible. On the other hand, I had to wait for 2 days until I arrived at the hotel.
\nI bought an “alternative power supply” at an electronics store in Ueno, Tokyo.
\nI bought the model that the clerk at the electronics store told me to buy.
\nSo I went into the hotel and connected the external HD.
\nThe Mac started without any problem, but the external SSD was not recognized.
\nRecent Macs have a small storage space in the main unit.
\nI have saved most of the environment data including past data on the external drive.
\nIf that data is not recognized, I can’t move around.
\nWe had no choice but to take the following measures.
\n1 Purchase an external SSD with USB-C connection at Akihabara.
\n2 Connect it to the Mac and set it as the new “photo data back” storage location.
\n3 Load the photos stored on the iPhone.
\n4 Use it for the time being for coverage and blog expression.
\nHowever, make sure there is a way to restore to the existing SSD backup.
\n5 As for the external SSD, it is probably due to an electrical “physical” shock.
\nThere is a possibility that it can be restored if it is restored to a stable existing environment after returning home.
\nEven if it is not possible, it is safer to have the data recovery center in Sapporo deal with the problem.
\nIt would be difficult to recover the data at the data recovery center in Akihabara because of the long distance when it took a long time to get there.
\nTherefore, we requested the restoration work in Sapporo after returning to Japan. However, they replied that it would be difficult to recover the data in a few days.
\nWe had no choice but to request the manufacturer of the SSD to restore the data.
\nAfter more than 2 months of waiting, they recently came to a conclusion.
\nOn December 24, we received the replaced SSD because data recovery was impossible.
\nThe possibility of power supply trouble was still high, so I ascended to heaven.
\nLoss of about 3 years of personal interview photo data, etc. Well, many thoughts come to mind.
\nBut I can’t help but feel that I can’t get anything from prying into it.
\nIt is unavoidable. In life, there are various force majeure.
\nThe future solution is to use the cloud. However, it is necessary to narrow down the number of data because a large amount of data is too expensive.
\nThe data selection process for that purpose is time-consuming and costly.
\nNaturally, work-related data is externalized to the company’s internal network on a case-by-case basis, so there are no major problems.
\nEven if there is a problem, it is possible to handle it somehow.
\nSo, in reality, I will continue to use external drives with care.
\nI think that’s how I see the relationship between myself and IT at the moment.<\/p>\n

However, this experience also made me realize something about the relationship between humans and technology.
